Jonathan L. Bernstein

Jonathan L. Bernstein, principal of Bernstein Communications, designs and conducts strategic marketing and public relations programs, with particular expertise in Issues Management (often in the form of crisis prevention and response), Mature Market Public Relations (relating to the age 55+ population), Business/Financial Communications (building a company's perceived value as an investment), and NetMarketing (helping to achieve public relations goals via Internet-based communications). He also publishes "Crisis Manager," an English-language e-mail newsletter on the subject of Crisis Management.
Bernstein brings international-level experience to his consultancy, having previously served for almost five years as senior vice president and director of both the Crisis Communications and Mature Market groups for Ruder Finn, Inc., one of the country's largest public relations agencies, and a member of their dedicated New Business Development Team. He created those divisions for Ruder Finn, which became one of the first national agencies with a Mature Market specialty. He started his own business in January 1994.

In support of his work, he served for four years as public relations chairman on the board of the National Association for Senior Living Industry Executives (NASLIE) and is a recipient of NASLIE's Distinguished Service Award. Bernstein also received a SAGE (Significant Achievements in Generational Empathy) award from Maturity Market Perspectives and two Mature Market Media awards. His experience with legal cases and response to multiple Arizona-based crises has resulted in his becoming a regular columnist for Arizona Attorney magazine, official publication of the State Bar of Arizona, and a speaker at Bar Association functions.

His past experience includes corporate, agency and non-profit public relations positions, preceded by five years of investigative and feature journalism -- to include a stint with investigative reporter/columnist Jack Anderson. Prior to that, Bernstein, oxymoronically, was in U.S. Army Military Intelligence. He earned a bachelor's degree in Speech Communications, magna cum laude, from the University of Maryland.

Bernstein is a frequent writer, public speaker, trainer and media source about his areas of specialization and, when not in the office, he enjoys being pummeled into submission by his four kids, as well as playing golf, other fitness activities, and performing folk music.
